On Monday, January 26, 2009, the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Science” were published to the public. The lead author, Susan Soloman, a senior scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, stated that even if we stopped emitting carbon dioxide immediately, the current changes caused by global warming “...will persist until at least the year 3000.” Ms. Soloman stated “We have to think about it much more like nuclear waste than, like say, smog or acid rain. In the past 100 years (approximately), mankind has caused so much harm to Planet Earth by global warming, that even if we could “flip a switch” and stop all carbon dioxide emissions tomorrow (which obviously ain’t happenin’!)--Mankind’s global warming effect on Planet Earth will impact and harm future generations of people, wildlife, sea-life and landscape “until the year 3000”--for 1,000 years (at least!) into the future!

1,000 years from NOW would be the year 3009. 1,000 years AGO would be the year 1009! The year 1009 was approximately 500 years BEFORE Columbus discovered America in 1492! Or, put another way, 1,000 years AGO, would be approximately 760+ years BEFORE the United States signed the Declaration of Independence and became a nation!
